About Faculty of Engineering
Background
The faculty of engineering at Somali National University was establish in 1974, it has four department Mechanical, Civil, Electrical and Architectural Engineering. Since that time, the faculty has continuous growth in undergraduate as well as steady increases in research and outreach activities. However, after the government collapse during civil wars 1990 the faculty was close. Fortunately, Somali National University re-opened 2014; two years later faculty of engineering was re-start, and the first batch-enrolled year 2016. Now the year of 2024 faculty of engineering has eight batches, 821 students and 42 lecturers.
Vision Statement
The faculty of engineering at Somali National University envisions becoming a recognized
leader in engineering education and research by producing innovative, ethical, and socially
responsible graduates who will contribute to sustainable development and community well
being. These faculty aim to be centers of excellence through quality teaching, cutting-edge
research, interdisciplinary collaboration with other similar institutions, and a commitment to
producing capable engineers who can meet challenging national and international standards.
Mission Statement
The Faculty of Engineering at Somali National University has a mission to produce highly
qualified, ethical engineers through innovative, practical education and research, while meeting
societal and global needs by fostering leadership, innovation, and sustainable development in
engineering branches. This involves delivering high-quality programs that contain modern
teaching with hands-on experience, enabling graduates to become competent professionals and
leaders capable of addressing complex challenges in the near future.
Values
The Faculty of Engineering at Somali National University has the values that include excellence
in education and research, innovation to solve problems and create new opportunities and
technologies, ethics and integrity with professional practice, sustainability for the environment
and community care as well as their engagement for social impact, teamwork and collaboration
for project success, and professionalism and accountability for responsible practice.
